Shakespeare’s Globe has teamed up with Deutsche Bank to offer free tickets to a child friendly version of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice at the Globe theatre in London.

Unusually, the tickets are available to both those schools within the London Boroughs, but also to schools across the UK. Availability is limited, so if you are interested in booking your school in to a performance you need to get your skates on.

The performance will last 100 minutes, and is specially tailored for a younger, more modern audience, without losing any of the spirit of the original play.

There is also scheduled to be a special performance which is offered to those people who work with children who have special needs, such as autism, and which aims to cater for those with issues such as sensitivity to noise etc. There will only be one of these performances, and no doubt, competition for tickets will be fierce.

Details of how to apply are to be found on the Globe’s website. You can follow the link here.

There is a separate micro site that deals specifically with the performance here. It offers teacher’s notes, a break down of the characters and plot and other helpful teaching tools.
